Teodosio, Basilisco's Aglianico del Vulture DOC, takes its name from a Byzantine emperor, a Basileus, whose effigy appears on a 5th century coin and has become the winery's symbol. A pure Aglianico grown in the estate's vineyards in Barile, in the province of Potenza, the grapes are rooted in fabulous volcanic, tufaceous and clayey soil. This, together with the beautiful south-eastern exposure and the position of the vineyards at about 500 metres above sea level, are the fundamental prerequisites for the production of high quality wines. Fermentation and maceration in stainless steel tanks for about 20 days, Teodosio matures for 12 months in barriques and in tonneaux of second and third passage French oak. Then, after bottling, follows at least another 12 months of refinement in the cellar before the final release. Ruby red colour with a tendency to violet. Teodosio has aromas of wild berries and sour cherry plums. Well-balanced, in the mouth it is full-bodied and very persistent.
